Today CAN Be the Day

Today CAN Be the Day

Psalm 118:24 says, The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.

A few months ago, I moved out into my own place and someone very special to me wrote “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!” on my bathroom mirror. Ever since then that verse has completely shaped every day for me. I would wake up and see it and say it to myself, and throughout the day I would think about it.

Eventually I cleaned that mirror and wiped it off but I keep writing that verse in my mirror. I keep writing it, and every day when I wake up and look at it I remember I have a choice. Each day, I have the choice to wake up and rejoice and I have the choice to wake up and let negative things shape my day. There have been days that I woke up totally grumpy (and trust me…those days have not been in short supply), or days I have woken up depressed, anxious, or hurt. And each day, through whatever eyes I have woken up seeing the world with I have looked at those words on my mirror and made my choice.

When I think about it, “The Lord has done it this very day”, my mind goes to how much God has radically shaped and transformed my life. I think about all He has redeemed and all that He has given me. I get overwhelmed with the thought of how much He loves and cares for me, overwhelmed thinking that He forgave me. When I think about those things, it becomes much harder for me to focus on all of the bad things that are happening and it becomes much easier for me to rejoice in all that He has done.

Like I said ladies, we have a choice. Every morning we have our choice on how we are going to respond to life. We can let fear, sadness, grumpiness, disappointment or whatever else shape us, but ultimately that is letting the devil win. All of those things are attacks that are trying to pull us further and further away from God.

We can wake up and focus on those things and think that they are big enough to hurt us or we can focus on the power that is in our God, the love He shares, the grace He gives, and we can rejoice.

My prayer for myself is that I would continue to be joyful and let my life point back to God as an arrow. That people would know that despite anything I am going through I have a reason to rejoice. My prayer for you is the same! Each day, remember you have a choice. Today can be the day that you overcome something, today can be the day that you are filled with joy, and hope, and peace. It doesn’t have to take a long time, all it takes is Jesus. I hope that today you will choose to cling to that, and rejoice.
